Summary:
The Assistant Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing maintenance, repairs, and project management to ensure efficient operations and continuous production. This role involves managing maintenance teams, optimizing utility systems, coordinating equipment installations, and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review cost estimates, compile equipment data, and submit requests.
- Lead all aspects of project work, including design, contractor bid packages, installation oversight, and cost tracking.
- Schedule and supervise machine maintenance and repair to support uninterrupted production.
- Train staff on new equipment operations and provide post-project support.
- Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Oversee utility system maintenance to ensure a steady supply of essential resources (heat, steam, power, gas, air).
- Analyze production and maintenance reports to improve operations and reduce costs.
- Collaborate with design engineers and R&D teams on equipment modifications and new product requirements.
- Identify energy reduction opportunities and work with energy firms for rebate programs.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental policies, reporting any risks or incidents.
- Maintain records related to equipment, supplies, and maintenance activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Maintenance project management and leadership experience.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work within time constraints.
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems, steam boilers, NH3 and Freon refrigeration.
- Proficiency in basic math and ability to read and write clear correspondence.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in mechanical engineering, construction, or the food industry.
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems, steam boilers, NH3 and Freon refrigeration.
- EPA 608 or 609 certification.
- Process Safety Management experience.
