Summary: 

An Automation Controls Engineer at Pacific Seafood is a key role on our Engineering team supporting efforts to ensure the smooth operation and continuous improvement of our facilities and infrastructure. This position involves development, implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of control systems for industrial automation. They are responsible for ensuring efficient and effective operation of machinery, equipment, and processes by utilizing their strong technical skills in HMI, PLC controls, programming, and control system design.

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Technical Operations:
  • Assess, design, specify, program, and troubleshoot industrial control systems and related equipment and integration requirements.
  • Demonstrated a willingness and ability to write disciplined, organized and well-documented code.
  • Fluent in ANSI Y32.2/IEEE and IEC electrical schematic symbols and layouts.
  • Fluent in ANSI/ISA S5.1 P&ID process schematics symbols and layouts.
  • Demonstrated mastery of IEC 61131-3 PLC programming, with an emphasis on Structured Text and Ladder.
  • Experience with industrial networks such as Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, CANopen, and J1939
  • Develop, and integrate SCADA systems for monitoring and controlling industrial processes.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices related to engineering, and apply this knowledge to enhance processes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and other relevant policies and procedures.
2. Process Improvement and Project Management
  • Design and implement appropriate automation solutions for improved production efficiency.
  • Evaluate systems or processes and recommend changes to improve reliability and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with control systems, including but not limited to PLC controls, servo drives, and machine vision systems.
3. Administrative:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful integration of control systems into production processes.
  • Maintain documentation and provide training on control systems for production teams.
  • Perform recordkeeping audits per established guidelines; provides detailed follow-up reports.
  • Assist with the design, development, editing of department forms and documents.
  • Develop and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as needed.

What You Bring to Pacific Seafood: 

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Computer Engineering, Electrical, Industrial, or related field) or equivalent practical experience
  • At least seven years related experience.
  • Strong proficiency in HMI, PLC controls, and structured text programming
  • Expert proficiency implementing/troubleshooting PLCs, HMI, motion control, servo systems, and industrial sensors
  • Experience with industrial networks such as Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, CANopen, and J1939
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and robotics automation
  • Knowledge of servo drives, machine vision systems, OCR systems, and laser sensors
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate and build relationships with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental standards related to maintenance activities.
  • Ability to travel to locations along the West Coast including Alaska and British Columbia as needed.
Preferred:
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, organizing, and coordinating resources to achieve project goals within budget and timeline constraints.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and work effectively under pressure.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $150,000 annually
